Kiambu: University student peddler nabbed with bhang cakes



Kiambu Town: A Kenyatta university student was  arraigned in a Kiambu court for trafficking drugs.

The student, Stephen Thige Ruiru who appeared before Kiambu Resident Magistrate Brain Khaemba, denied possessing 108 rolls of bhang and seven pieces of cakes containing bhang.

The Prosecution told the court Thige was arrested on Wednesday, February 15, while peddling the drugs at the university.

“Security officers from Kiamumbi acting on a tip off went to the university and with the assistance from the university security guards arrested Thige,” the prosecution said.

Thige was cornered while seated at the university annex and on being searched, the security officers recovered a green bag containing 108 rolls of bhang, seven pieces of baked cakes all with a street value of 5,000 shillings.

Khaemba ordered the accused to be released on a bond of Sh50,000 with a surety of similar amount or a cash bail of Sh 20, 000.

The case hearing was slated for April 4 this year.
