Kibichoi: A suspect linked to the murder of two police officers at Kibichoi in Githunguri sub- County last week will remain in police custody for 7 days as investigations progresses.
The accused was arrested on Tuesday after he volunteered himself at Ngong police station in Kajiado County and confessed having participated in the heinous crime. He was then handed over to Githunguri police station.
A Githunguri based CID officer Mr. Benard Odongo Wednesday successfully requested area Principal Magistrate Melanie Ochieng to give him 14 days to complete investigations.
In his application, Odongo further indicated that the matter had attracted a lot of public interest and that the suspect’s safety was at risk and he should therefore be kept in safe custody.
He explained the 14 days would also enable detectives to probe the suspect further for him to reveal his accomplices.
“The case requires adequate evidence as the victims passed on and the government lost the firearms which pose a grave risk to members of public if they remain in the hands of criminals,” he stressed.
The Principal Magistrate set the case to be mentioned on 1st September.
The murdered officers formerly attached to Kibichoi police post were ambushed at Miti Kenda area by four gunmen on Friday while on routine patrol and sprayed with bullets.
Addressing the press at Karuri police station yesterday, Kiambu County police commander Mr. Adiel Nyange said the killer criminals rode on a motorbike.
Nyange appealed to members of public to support police on war against crime by volunteering information on suspects in their midst assuring them that their identities will be protected.
